Vegetarian butcher Suzy Spoon perfects recipe for yummy meatless meals

I suppose the term ‘butcher’ is rather a misnomer here, if you think of the word in the usual sense, but according to Google it actually has two meanings: (1) a person whose trade is cutting up and selling meat in a shop and (2) a person selling refreshments, newspapers, etc on a train or in a theatre (North American, informal). Wow, I did not know that. So I suppose Suzy Spoon can call her shop a Vegetarian Butcher.  Sorry, you’ll need to travel to Australia if you want to taste Suzy’s take on meatless sausages etc.

CHEF Suzy Spoon is famous for creating mouth-watering schnitzels, burger patties and sausages — all without a trace of meat in sight.

Suzy Spoon’s Vegetarian Butcher opened on King St, Newtown around seven months ago and the store is already thriving, with a steady stream of customers and almost 6000 followers on Facebook.

She previously sold her wares at Marrickville’s markets and had a similar business on Enmore Rd and in the 90s she ran a vegetarian burger joint on Australia St in Newtown.

Spoon was so highly regarded as a vegetarian chef that Hollywood star Tobey Maguire recruited her as his personal chef while he was in Australia filming The Great Gatsby.
