Today is Ash Wednesday, the begging of Lenten Season of this year, which runs for 40 days until Saturday April 4, serving as a time where many Christians will prepare for Easter. Practicing Catholics who are older than 14 should abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and each Friday during the season of Lent. This is why we’ve compiled a series of vegetarian and fish recipes, so you and your family can follow this tradition with flavorful dishes.

Good Housekeeping’s Salmon with Lentils and Orange-Basil Dressing: This is a fancy option that’s packed with nutrients and flavor, with a sweet and tangy touch that your whole family will like. Try it here! You can also go with some, Spicy Shrimp Fajita Quesadillas: Their name says it all. Most of us love fajitas, so why not give them a twist this Lent and enjoy them for dinner. Remember the good thing about fajitas is they can be custom made!

Comida Kraft’s Vegetarian Chiles Rellenos: A great (low-calorie option) that will make Lent dinners much easier. These can be served as a side or as a main dish with rice and beans.

BBC Good Food’s Salmon with Salsa Verde: Although it’s a different type of salsa verde, it adds another layer of flavor to the dish, which your family will appreciate. The recipe also includes a rice side dish to serve the fish with!

Food & Wine’s Spaghetti with Tomatoes, Basil, Olives, and Fresh Mozzarella: Pastas are universal crowd pleasers, so it’s hard to go wrong with this simple-yet-delicious dish. Everyone in your family will be asking for more!

Food Network’s Argentinian Corn Empanadas: Empanadas are a great dish to have for dinner; you can stuff them with a variety of fillings (savory or sweet), and once you get the hang of it, you can make big batches for a delicious family meal.
