In the United States alone, 7.3 million people follow a vegetarian diet, 1 million are vegan, and 22.8 million people largely follow a vegetarian-inclined diet. As research continues to amass proof of the numerous health benefits that come from giving up at least some, if not all, meat, the plant-based diet continues to grow in popularity. (1)
Never before in history has there been a better time to make the switch to a vegetarian lifestyle. Companies such as Beyond Meats and Impossible Foods are creating products that closely resemble meat products for meat lovers, and many restaurants are offering vegetarian or vegan items on the menus. (2)
There has never been a better time in history to take the plunge into the vegetarian lifestyle!
A worldwide coffee and sandwich shop asked their customers if they would like to have a meat-free shop. The UK based, Pret A Manger, has sites in the UK, US, France, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. CEO, Clive Schlee, reports that vegetarian sales have been increasing more than other food in their shops. Their top selling salad is a Beets, Squash, and Feta salad – beating out their chicken, salmon, and crayfish salad. (2)
Schlee desired to hear from his customers because he feels opening vegetarian stores would be good, but does not want to risk alienating the current customer base. There are plenty of meat oriented food chains, such as Chipotle and Five Guys, and Schlee wants to give vegetarians that same option. (2)
